WHO WE ARE

The Ruth Mae Memorial Scholarship was developed in 2006 by a committee of the Sawyer Family. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist a graduating high school senior of the Spiritual Israel Church and Its Army that has been accepted and plans to attend college.

Ruth Mae Sawyer became an active member of the Spiritual Israel Church & Its Army; Michigan Temple #4 in 1957, and was affectionately known as “Sawyer” or “Sister Sawyer”. Sister Sawyer remained an active member in the church until her passing in October of 1994. The church was her “thang”. During her time serving for the God of Israel she served on the Nurse Board, cleaned the church, and sung in the choir. Sister Sawyer introduced and guided three generations of her family through the Spiritual Israel Church & Its Army; Michigan Temple #4.

Sister Sawyer was a strong advocate for education and would preach the importance of education to her her family and within the community. She always reminded family and friends to get a “good education so that you will be able to get a good job to get the things you need in life”.

In memory of Ruth M. Sawyer, the Sawyer family, established this memorial scholarship, to financially assist a high school senior of The Spiritual Israel Church & Its Army; with their post secondary education. A student who has demonstrated scholastic achievement, balanced with community service.
